KaleidoLINKS is a non-profit organization dedicated to youth empowerment and advocacy, incorporated in the District of Columbia. Our mission is to foster the development of a positive self image in minority youth through active community engagement, social diversity awareness and communication. Our methods are unique in that we focus on practical programming that indirectly teaches youth about broader issues. Our programs address the need for more youth involvement in the shaping of our social future. Through intensive youth-led workshops and project-based assignments, we hope to have youth leading the way to a safer community for all peoples of different socio-economic backgrounds. We will provide programming that leverages the tangible, conceptual, education, and dialogue in a safe environment. Within the KL Power / KL Racing Program youth will engage in the creation of alternative fuel racing vehicles. Using the method of project empowerment, they will identify solutions to larger universal issues of increased oil dependence, ecological changes, and energy conservation. It is fundamentally practical for students to learn about issues that have direct bearing to their future by providing an activity where they can become direct agents of change through first hand experiences and research. Through KL Power (KL Racing), we provide a curriculum that challenges the standard methods of education by providing youth with the tools to learn and identify life skills.
